“After service in Vietnam, Catalena returned to Brazos County, where he has run a number of businesses for more than 45 years. He said he has good employees who run most of those businesses while he concentrates on his cattle operations. Catalena says he is not too busy to be county commissioner.

Catalena has long served on the board of Producers Cooperative giving him experience in dealing with large budgets. He is a strong supporter of the Brazos County Expo and is pleased with the expansion that it is undergoing, saying it is necessary to bring in national shows. Catalena supports a county fair, saying he hopes one will start next year.

Catalena says commissioners court meetings should be more accessible to the public with more explanations of what commissioners are discussing and voting on. He also said he would like to improve communications between the county and the two cities.”

Sammy Catalena “Tosses His Hat” into the race for Brazos County Commissioner Precinct 2

Local rancher, businessman and native of Brazos County, Sammy Catalena , announced today his intentions to seek the position of Brazos Country Commissioner Pct 2, a position currently held by Duane Peters. Catalena, a Texas A&M graduate and Vietnam veteran, has been married to his wife Carolyn for 38 years and has raised three sons in Brazos County. Sammy along with his entire family are involved in a cow/calf operation, as well as ownership of Catalena Hatters and The Texas Store. Sammy is also a PRCA stock contractor through his company, The Sammy Catalena Rodeo Company. Sammy presently serves as president of Bryan Breakfast Lions Club, and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Producers Cooperative Association. He maintains his involvement with the Brazos County Go-Texan Committee serving in previous years as chairman. For decades, Catalena has served on numerous committees with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Catalena has also been instrumental in orchestrating and securing dozens of scholarships for Brazos County youth. Sammy has been involved with the local Farm Bureau and the Bryan Young Farmers receiving top honors as Outstanding Young Businessman of the year for Area 3.

When asked about his qualifications for Brazos County Commissioner Precinct 2, Catalena responded “I’ve experienced both sides of the fence as a businessman for over 30 years and a community servant for that same time period. I am anxious to serve the people of Precinct 2 as well as lead with my ability to communicate and articulate a realistic, positive and balanced vision for the future of Brazos County. I look forward to being your candidate for Brazos County Commissioner Precinct 2’.
